in Manila
Two nights is the honest sweet spot for Manila: enough for both halves of the city, not enough to start losing days to the road.
Day one is the heritage circuit: free museums, Binondo, the Esplanade, Intramuros at golden hour. Day two is the metro that Filipinos actually live in: the American Cemetery and BGC in the morning, Makati's markets and Ayala Museum in the afternoon, then Poblacion at night for a Michelin-starred dinner or ₱150 tacos, depending on your budget. Budget about ₱4,000 per person excluding hotel. The one rule that makes it work: two districts a day, never three.
Old Manila
National Museums — free
Fine Arts for the Spoliarium, Anthropology for the pre-colonial gold if you have the appetite. Closed Mondays. Two hours.
Binondo food crawl
LRT-1 to Carriedo or a short Grab. ₱400–500 a head across four or five stops. Cash, bag in front, finish by 2pm before the good stalls sell out.
Esplanade to Intramuros on foot
Over the Binondo–Intramuros Bridge and along the riverwalk. Fifteen minutes and free — the walk that did not exist before 2022.
Fort Santiago and the walls
₱75. The Rizal Shrine, the dungeons, then the ramparts at golden hour. Open until 10pm now, so there is no rush.
Dinner in Intramuros or Makati
Barbara's for the heritage dinner-show buffet if you want the colonial-era version, or Grab to Makati for Manam. The fort's Batala Bar is the low-key option if you would rather stay in the walls.
The modern metro
Manila American Cemetery
Free with photo ID, opens at 9am, and the low morning light across 17,184 crosses is the reason to be there early. One hour, and the most affecting thing in the metro.
BGC — High Street, The M or the Mind Museum
Ten minutes from the cemetery. The M is ₱300 booked online against ₱550 at the door; the Mind Museum at ₱750–995 is the pick with children. Walkable, air-conditioned, easy.
Lunch in BGC, then cross to Makati
₱150–300 and 20–45 minutes by Grab. Go before 15:00 — the afternoon band is when the EDSA rebuild bites hardest.
Ayala Museum and Ayala Triangle
₱425 for foreign adults, and the best-curated museum in the metro. The Gold of Ancestors floor is the reason. On a Saturday, swap it for the Salcedo Market in the morning instead.
Rest, then walk to Poblacion
Fifteen minutes on foot from the CBD. Rooftops catch the last light around 17:30; the bars fill from 19:00 and the clubs not until after midnight.
Dinner: star, Bib or plastic stool
Kasa Palma for the Michelin-starred version at ₱6,500–8,500, Lampara for the Bib Gourmand at ₱1,000–1,800, or Tambai's yakitori and El Chupacabra's tacos for ₱300–600. All three are within a few blocks.
The Spirits Library, then tacos
Asia's 50 Best Bars #98 and the only Philippine entry, cocktails ₱500–900. Finish at the taco window. Grab home after midnight rather than walking the side streets.

Is two days enough for Manila?
Yes — two nights is the honest sweet spot. Day one covers the heritage core (museums, Binondo, Intramuros), day two covers the modern metro and a proper night out. A third day is worth adding only if you want a day trip to Tagaytay or Corregidor.
What should I do on my second day in Manila?
Cross to the modern side: the free American Cemetery at 9am, BGC in the late morning, Makati in the afternoon, and Poblacion at night. It is the deliberate contrast to day one, and locals treat showing visitors both halves as the whole point.
How much does two days in Manila cost?
About ₱8,000 per person on a normal budget including two nights sharing a mid-range room, or ₱2,800 doing it lean with rail, free museums and street food. In dollars that is roughly $130 and $46 respectively at the August 2026 rate.
Can you do Intramuros and BGC in the same day?
You can, and you will regret it. They are opposite corners of the metro and the transfer costs 35–70 minutes each way. The two-districts-a-day rule exists precisely to stop this — pair Intramuros with Binondo, and BGC with Makati.
